Job Description

What you'll do:
This role is crucial to support future growth of AH&N.   Under the direction of the SVPT&R, this individual will interface with R&D, Manufacturing, Engineering and the business to ensure efficient fermentation, concentration and other downstream processes for the product portfolio and to manage the process capabilities for growth.  
 
Key responsibility of the role will be to meet current and future production needs through process optimization, and evaluation and implementation of new technologies.   Excellent partnership with cross functional teams will be required for success of this role.  
 
A key aspect of the role is to increase efficiency of unit operations and reduce cost.
Main Responsibilities: Safety first and Quality always are the core principles guiding the day to day responsibilities. 
Process Monitoring
  • Ensure productivity, concentration and yield targets are met at all stages of the process (both fermented and concentrated)
  • Ensure any modifications fermentation development does not impact on the downstream process efficiency
  • Investigate variance to target, determine and implement corrective actions
  • Manage documentation control to ensure all documentation required for fermentation production and development are maintained and up to date
  • Develop and publish dashboards to monitor and benchmark process performance between facilities.
  • Process Development
  • Work in close collaboration with the RD&A team to transfer new fermentation and concentration processes and ongoing efficiency improvements to existing processes
  • Identify potential process improvements to deliver productivity, concentration and yield increase
  • Implement identified improvements to deliver on-going cost saving and efficiency improvements
Process Modification
  • Review and update formulations and fermentation algorithms as required to implement process improvement
  • Prepare Batch and Process change request documentation to implement
  • Develop product and process costings to determine cost benefit of process modifications prior to implementation
  • Prepare Change request documentation to implement changes
Process Technology
  • Work with the business team to ensure development opportunities are implemented and any transfer of fermentation data in or out of the company is documented and recorded.
New Process development
  • Carry out process development of new processes as required
  • Work in conjunction with the RD&A and Site Engineering in development of processes that can be implemented and scaled up to production
  • Co-ordinate pilot trials to implement processes developed by RD&A or other research groups as determined by the business
 New Plant
  • Work with Process engineering group to enable the design, specification, installation and commissioning of new plant to progress to completion
  • Carry out any necessary pilot trials to ensure specification of plant meets the requirements set out in the development stage
New Unit Operations
  • Manage the implementation of new processes on site to ensure all procedures set out are implemented.
Cultures
  • Assist in the development of current practice to ensure all cultures on site are maintained in the most optimal way to meet the requirements of the business
  • Develop new or novel systems for culture identification, propagation and storage as required
 
What you'll need to be successful:
Education
  • Minimum primary degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, in a Science or Engineering discipline.
Experience:                        
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in relevant fermentation procedures. Vinegar fermentation experience will be a plus.       
  • Good communication skills with ability to communicate in a concise and clear manner both verbally and written
  • Extensive travel to the various production facilities in the US is required (50-75%).
